There is really something to your point about how the innate chaos of cities scares the shit out of these tech guys. Existing at the precarious intersection of antisocial, uber wealthy, egotistical and algorithm obsessed must do something to their brains. An optimized nanny state always leaks into their grand visions for the world. That or the is just fascist juice in the water in El Segundo.
Emil have you ever read The Dispossessed by Ursula K LeGuin? I feel like it would be right up your alley and really has been hitting different in times of late. If you have read, would be curious to hear your thoughts on it.
Also this post was super interesting. I think you did a great job in conveying the fact that these are real people with real plans and I think that aspect is missed by a lot of people these days.
Emil, I really appreciate your perspective on things. It very often feels like only the truly insane are saying anything at all about the state of things, so it's very refreshing to see someone grounded in reality picking apart the unsavory bits of corporate and far-right derangement.
Well this is terrifying. Not exactly surprising. These billionaires are so isolated from the ‘real world’ that when they experience it again (or for the first time) it scares the crap out of them so they have to make the most insane sounding (to us ‘normal’ people) plans to wrap the world or rather themselves, in cotton wool (security). Unfortunately they have the money and seemingly the political backing to maybe bring these horrifying visions into fruition.

This is a point that hit me in the gut reading Emil’s post. They are real people with real plans. It’s honestly terrifying.
